Watchword for Houston Northeast Aglow: Isaiah 54

“Moreover, the word of the Lord came to me, saying, Jeremiah, what do you see? And I said, ‘I see a branch or shoot of an almond tree’ [the emblem of alertness and activity, blossoming in late winter]. Then said the Lord to me, ‘You have seen well, for I am alert and active, watching over My word to perform it.'” Jeremiah 1:11-12

In November 2002, the Holy Spirit gave the Houston Northeast Aglow Leadership Team a Word from Isaiah 54. This chapter has since become the watchword for our lighthouse — a word that God continually is watching over to perform. The words for “watching” and “almond” in the original Hebrew of this text sound very much alike. The almond tree symbolizes God’s vigilance in watching over His word to perform it; God guarantees fulfillment of His Word. The Houston Northeast Aglow team has indeed seen the Lord watch over His Word to us to perform it. He continually fulfills more of it before our very eyes. He consistently reveals Himself more fully in this fifty-fourth chapter of Isaiah and brings us back to it again and again, as He performs His Word to us. We marvel at His grace, goodness, and faithfulness to us, ordinary women, ordinary wives and mothers who dare to believe God.
